Princess & the Kiss: A Story of God's Gift of Purity
Published in Hardcover by Warner Press (July, 2000)
Author: Jennie Bishop

Every Mom and Daughter Should Share This Book!
My Sister-in-law sent this book to my daughter for her birthday, along with some similarly themed "princess" things. The first time we read it as a bedtime story, I had tears in my eyes. The beautiful illustrations and important message were perfectly interwoven. We will read this book many, many, times over the years, and as my four year-old becomes a young woman, it will be a wonderful tool to use to open discussion about love and the true meaning of purity. Thank you Jennie Bishop for sharing your Mother's heart with all of us!

The Princess and the Kiss
This book is great. This is what we should be teaching our children. From the littlest of girls to my seven year old boy it's perfect. I used to teach Kindergarten in a private school and if I was still there I would definately add this book to my classroom. Young children need to know that God wants us to "wait" for the person He has for us...not to "be with" just anyone! Which unfortunately is what is taught everywhere. Get this book! It's wonderful!

A Book to Change the World
Recently while at a weekend Peer Education Training event at Harsens Island, Michigan, I was introduced by the trainer to this wonderful book, "The Princess and the Kiss," by Jennie Bishop. I was SO VERY IMPRESSED with its message, I bought it for each of my seven grandchildren, who are all under the age of 12. Our's is a sacred responsibility to help our children learn who they are, where they came from, why they are on this earth, and where they are going when they leave. This outstanding story helps them understand WHO they are, that they are precious to their parents, and that they can understand and live by principles that will preserve their lives. As a registered nurse and adolescent health coordinator in a community health center, I see first hand every day the devastation when parents do not teach their children of their divine nature, and when children make choices that break with family values that have preserved trust throughout time. Thank you Jennie Bishop for conveying this is such a wonderful way. You are my hero! I will be buying this book again and again to give as a gift to new parents.

Star Kings

Author: Edmond Hamilton
Average review score:

An oldie, but definitely a must-read
I stumbled across The Star Kings shortly after I seriously got into SF, probably when I was about 12. This book blew my mind with its very colourful writing (love the characters' names) and the majestic sweep of the universe it presented. Sure the science is pretty badly dated, but if you can look past that, it's a rip-snorting tale as they say. This book still remains in my top 5, although I can't be sure that's not for sentimental reasons. I searched for about 5 years to find the sequel, Return to the Stars. For those who've read and loved this book, check out the campy movie Starcrash starring Marjoe Gortner next time it comes on late at night - the villian's name is Zarth Arn!

Different & Awesome!
John Gordon and Jarth Arn were both looking for something that was beyond them, beyond the lives they led. For Jarth, it was a world in the past that he had never visited. For John, it was adventure and excitement beyond his dull existence. Jarth needed John to see the world he was looking for and John needed Jarth for the adventure he sought, though John didn't know it at the time. John and Jarth switch bodies and time periods to seek the unknown, but only for a short, limited time. However, as usual, things never go as planned.

Jarth Arn is the second son to one of the most powerful Star Kings. This is just the beginning, as John fights off the League of the Dark Worlds He is torn between the Jarth's love of a mistress named Murn and his love for Princess Lianna, the ruler of a Star-Kingdom. He has to prove his loyalty to his older brother after Jarth's father is assassinated and he is framed for the crime. Then he has to save the entire galaxy from the evil that tries to overtake good.

As I started THE STAR KINGS, I must say it was nothing I ever dreamed of, but boy, it was a great surprise indeed! Mr. Edmund must have had an imagination beyond anything to have dreamed up and written a tale such as this one. From one excitement to the next, I could not stop turning the pages. STAR KINGS is one of the best paranormals I've ever read.

Romance At Its Best ...

Obsessed by it since 1958!
Listen lads!
I am 50 years old now, and I read "Star Kings" in 1958... I felt devastated then!
I could never forget it in 44 years, and I just happened to learn that it was written by Ed Hamilton, right a few days ago!... (The Turkish language edition I had read did not mention the author's name, it was a cheap pulp edition of about 50 cents of the day and I got money from my late dad to buy it, oh dear...)
I know it almost by heart after all those years...
To all Hamilton fans and the people of every age who dreamed of being a John Gordon, hail!

The Shadow King: The Invisible Force That Holds Women Back
Published in Paperback by iUniverse.com (October, 2000)
Author: Sidra, Ph.D. Stone
Average review score:

This book is revolutionary for women and for men too!
Sidra Stone shows us that the feminist revolution has to be an inside job. It doesn't matter how much we try to change the world outside of us - if we're still carrying the expectations of the patriarchy within our own psyches, it's not too likely that we'll be able to change. Dr. Stone not only shows how the Inner Patriarch functions within women, she gives clear and creative ideas about how we can disengage from this energy and even turn it into an ally. Working with this has been an enormous help to me personally on a daily basis. Since reading this book, I am much more aware of the messages I receive from my own Inner Patriarch and can take action to calm him down and rebalance my life. I think The Shadow King is one of the most significant books for women (and the men who are in relationship with them) written in the last 20 years.

Important for men, Required Reading for Women
I do not measure up in a patriarchy, and I am dispensable in a matriarchy, so I am pleased when either of them is put in its place, as Sidra Stone does magisterially in this book about the 'inner patriarchy.'

Sidra Stone is the co-founder with her husband, Hal, of Voice Dialogue, a beautiful formula for experiencing and researching archetypal energies within our selves and between each other in bonding patterns. It is full of variations, like music-making. About the 'inner patriarch' she says that he is taught to women unconsciously by their mothers and remains disowned in their unconscious to devastate their lives, unless he is brought out of the shadows into awareness.

Sidra Stone has brought out and owned the patriarch in this book, having worked with him both alone and with other women whom she respects and admires. She gives advice that has been successful both for her and for them on how to deal with him. The antidote to the inner paatrach's idealising and denigratory power is to adopt his own strong qualities, so that he no longer feels he has to control and protect daughters, wives and mothers and demean women and their partners. Her advice is to own and cherish complementary and other non-patriarchal energies, both tame and wild. Her subtle and judicious mind clarifies the contradictions in the patriarch's prejudiced and dualistic thinking. She certainly gets to know and even befriends, if not sleeps with, her enemy.

Sidra Stone has the psychologist's penchant for lists and vignettes but not, thankfully, for quotes from her extensive book list. She recommends two books but does not use extracts from them -- instead, she quotes from dreams and archetypal energies. She is an optimistic writer. Her optimism does not come only from her privileges and gifts, but, I believe, from her celebration of the rich variety of archetypal energies and of how we can resolve conflict by celebrating sameness and difference inside and between us, so that we can become more fully human and equal inside and out. I love this book.

Thousands of Years of Patriarchy in Each of Us
The Shadow King is a must-read for anyone wanting to discover a new key to an old block that thousands of years of Patriarchy has instilled deep within each of us! I am grateful for Sidra's clear vision into the underpinnings of such a significant and previously unrecognized force of cultural conditioning.

Rainbow Study Bible/Living Bible Edition
This is, by far, the finest Bible I've ever had the awesome opportunity to hold in my hands and heart! It is a "door-opener" for all those who NEED to READ the Bible, but who balk at being given one, saying, "I can't understand all those begats and that old language."

I simply hand this God-Blessed Bible to someone, and say, "What do you want to read about? Family? Prophecy? Satan? Just look at the bookmark, and thumb through this Bible until you find verses that are the COLOR you are looking for! It's THAT easy!" They are ALWAYS amazed! I have no idea how many copies of this Bible I have given away in the past 10 years, nor do I know how many more I will gift others with. PLEASE never let this one go out of print; people NEED it too much!

The TRUTH made easy.
As a 52 year old female, I have never been very good at remembering dates and names and places. This study bible has been exactly what I needed to enable me to remember more of God's word. The Rainbow edition's color code seems to make things stand out and become more personal to me. Thank you for making it easier to study and read this book of God's words to us.

Simplicity is Divine!
I was amazed at what a useful version of God's Word this Bible is! The rainbow system of color-coding each and every verse makes reading and studying the Bible more enjoyable and productive. I can't remember how many times I've flipped through the gospels looking for a particular verse by its color. There is no extraneous information (i.e. devotional sections or in-text explanations), and this helps to make this Bible a great study aid, giving each verse importance in a particular topic area (God, Commandments, Discipleship, Faith, etc.). I would heartily recommend this book to everyone, ESPECIALLY to the Christian who is reading his/her Bible for the first time. The simple rainbow system allows one to read the Word of God without the interpretation of theologians or scholars; I found that it constantly inspires me to pray and seek God's wisdom in understanding what He's saying to me.

Complete Tutankhamun: The King, the Tomb, the Royal Treasure
Published in Hardcover by Thames & Hudson (November, 1990)
Authors: Nicholas Reeves and C. N. Reeves
Average review score:

The tomb and its "treasures" are the real focus.
If you want a multitude of pictures and a fair discussion of the tomb's discovery and the objects found in it, then this is an excellent book. We used this in a grad/undergrad level seminar I took back at Columbia University because it is so detailed on the tomb and its discovery. However, when it comes to information about Tutankhanum himself there are only 20 pages that look at his life and the historical context of his life, most of that is spent on his family and the dynasty he is part of. 20 pages out of 200+?! This is why I'm giving this book only 4 stars -- the cover and the summary offered by the book itself suggests the book has three parts and this first one is barely there.

Ane excellent introduction to the king and his tomb
I had been interested for year in the tomb of Tutankamun, and sad at the lack of information on the tomb. In this book, there is both a general introduction to both who the king was, when he reigned, and what he probably did during his reign. This is the followed up with an introdction to the the discovery of the tome, the problems that Carter hads at the time, and then the cleaning of the tomb. The majority of the rest of the book is about the tomb contents itself, with many modern photo`s of the treasures. As Carter never got around to publishing the details of the dig, this is the closest thing to what he might have achieved. Highly recommended, well worth the price.

detailed, useful and complete
Ever since King Tutankhamun's tomb was discovered by Howard Carter in 1922, the legacy of the boy-king has fascinated the world. This fascinating book provides much information about this boy, who reigned over Egypt for a short period of time. The author describes the search and the discovery of the tomb, the archaeology of the tomb and the treasures it contained. The book includes extracts from Carter's notes and diaries, as well as first-time publication of his drawings and reconstructions. Offering both color and black-and-white illustrations, this is a most excellent useful reference for everyone.

The Shawshank Redemption: The Shooting Script (A Newmarket Screenplay)
Published in Paperback by Newmarket Press (March, 1996)
Authors: Frank Darabont and Stephen King
Average review score:

The Ultimate Screenplay
Wow. This is the first word that came to my mind after finishing reading this screenplay. Now, everyone knows how good the movie is, but reading this takes it to a whole different level. Included in this screenplay is extra scenes not seen in the final cut of the movie, a scene-by-scene analysis of the film, storyboards of important sequences, character photos, and last but not least, 2 forewords - one by Stephen King and the other by Frank Darabont, both giving insightful comments on the making of the movie and the novella 'Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption'. All in all, this is one of the most worthy purchases i've made as far as screenplays are concerned, and I recommend it to one and all - especially those interested in film analysis and movie making.

I hope... I'm free.
I really liked the book and the movie itself. Stephen King, for sure, didn't intend when he wrote Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption to emphasize a lot on the character of Andy. I think the basic character is the Morgan Freeman one. Frank Darabont, emphasized on both characters, Andy and Red. I have to ask myself, it's the redemption of who and of what? Is it the redemption of Andy, of Red, of Warren...? I think it's the redemption of all the characters in the book. At the end each one of them took what he deserved. Warren Suicide, Andy Freedom, and Red Hope. The brilliant thing about Shawshank Redemption script and movie is that the reader can't know what will happen and can estimate nothing untill the end of the story, there's no meaning of hope yet. What's hope in that movie? Is it something that we usually loose when we grow older under certain TERRIBLE conditions? Red lost all hope of getting outside Shawshank, at a certain time he wasn't willing to go out, he can never face the outside. Shawshank made him a machine man with machine heart and machine mind. Andy remind him back of his humanity, and hope is what deferenciates humans from other living species. I realized at the end that Hope is Freedom and it's not the opposite. When you have hope you can be free and when you don't you can never be free. The difference between Red and Andy is that Andy always believed in hope and that thing made him free, Red got out of Shawshank after 40 years and he was not free. Red started to feel freedom ("I think it's the excitement only a freemam can feel, a freeman at the start of a long journey whose conclusion is uncertain") when he regain hope and broke all rules and went to see his friend Andy. Hope is like dreams, when you lose it you lose your existence and therefore your humanity.

"A Good Thing"
This is a great read. This book doesn't just contain the screenplay to one of the best movies of the 1990s. It also has a delightful introduction by Stephen King which explains his relationship with Frank Darabont and describes his "dollar baby" policy concerning his short stories and novellas. There is also a sort of short foreward by Darabont briefly describing how the movie came into being. This book contains the complete shooting script (deleted lines and all) and a bunch of notes by Darabont illuminating why certain scenes were cut, lines where changed, etc. Anyone interesting in filmmaking would really benifit from reading this. For those who aren't even in the least bit interested in how a movie is made, this is still a delightful read. It is a good thing, perhaps one of the best of things.

Saddam: King of Terror
Published in Hardcover by Thorndike Pr (Largeprint) (September, 2003)
Author: Con Coughlin
Average review score:

EXTREMELY INTERESTING AND WELL RESEARCHED
It is clear from the text that Con Coughlin did his research on Saddam Hussein. If you can imagine a nation run by thugs and Mafia-types you understand what Saddam is all about. Saddam is Hitler without morals. At least Hitler decided NOT to use his chemical weapons. Coughlin details the life of a boy brought up on the knee of his Nazi-loving uncle. What a shock he turned out the way he did.

Very timely information. Many of the questions asked in the media today were answered by Coughlin in this 2002 book. You can't finish this book without thinking President Bush did the right thing going into Iraq. The only thing keeping this from 5 stars is the writing itself. Coughlin skips around, throws a lot of names and history at you, and not always in chronological order. A heavy book, but extremely informative. Anyone who wants to comment on the war with Iraq should read this first.

A Terrific Source
Con Coughlin has put together an excellent biography on this Iraqi president. Though writing from a pro-western view, he gives a great amount of evidence and support for his claims. The book is an easy read and provides many thought-provoking facts about the history of the region, the upward mobility of Saddam, and the propoganda of the Iraqi government.

Though I wouldn't go so far as to say that this is helpful in the "war/no war" debate, I can certainly recommend immediately for those that want to gain a better understanding of just who this man is, where he comes from, how he rose to power, and how he as stayed in the presidential seat for so long.

After reading this book, I feel I have gained a larger understanding of the conflict in the Middle East, and the responses of the people. In reading this book I have discovered:

1. The massive and relentless propaganda this regime has spread using terrible tactics of threat, fear, and death.

2. Iraq is mainly a division of three groups of people: the Kurds (north), the Shiites (south), and the Sunni (the smallest group in the middle; Saddam's group). Neither those in the North, nor in the South, desire Saddam in power.

3. The ruthless and terrible acts of evil Saddam has committed against his own Iraqi people.

4. The Iraqi economy could have sufficient strength (through its oil industry) to be a nation of culture and sophistication. However, Saddam and his son's continue to squander much of the funds on the military, funding weapons of mass destruction development sites, large and numerous underground shelters, not to mention the cars, women, and overly-lavish palaces.

5. A great foreign relations history is provided that sheds a bit more light on the reasons why some countries may have decided not to support the coalition. France, for instance, is not only the country that sold Saddam his nuclear reactor, but has provided him with ample amount of weaponry. Germany, the country notorious of mustard gas during the World Wars, used such expertise in building facilities for chemical and biological toxin production in Iraq.

What I think is most important to mention is that this book contains a great bibliography. It is important that we be able to examine the evidence for ourselves in order to come to a more objective understanding of such issues. While some of the evidence comes from personal interviews the author conducted with particular Iraqi defectors (remaining anonymous for their protection), the bibliography also contains a great many other credible and accessable works that we can examine and through which, build our own opinions on Iraq.

Saddam, Hilter, Stalin, and Sadomasochistic Killers:
This book is not a "fun" read it is the detailed biography of a sadomasochistic sociopathic killer who will do anything to gain power and maintain it. Before reading this book, I did not really understand Baathism, or Saddam, or what was really going on. I thought that we wanted the oil, or that George Bush wanted to distract us. After reading this history of one of the most revolting dictators of the last century it is clear he needs to go. Baathism is essentially Naziism. Saddam modeled his tactics on Hitler, Stalin, and Ted Bundy. Saddam is a ruthless sociopathic killer who kills anyone who disagrees with him, argues with him, does a good job and might compete with him, or knows anyone who might cause him a problem. He even kills women who fails to satisfy him sexually. Con Coughlin details his life story and the ruthless pursuit of the obtainment of the Iraq presidency and control of it by Saddam Hussein. This biography is essential to anyone who wants to understand the forces that we face in the next few years. We would be doing the Iraquis a tremendous favour by sending this man to the Hague.

Stephen King 7: The Gunslinger, the Drawings of the Three (Stephen King's Dark Tower Series)
Published in Paperback by New American Library Trade (November, 1992)
Author: Stephen King
Average review score:

The Dark Tower, The Gunslinger
The Dark TowerSh

The gunslinger is a good book that I would give four stars because it keeps you wanting more and is a whole different world. At the same time the world is the same world we live in today and back when there used to be cowboys that roamed in one world. It gives a different interesting setting and people that are not we as we think of people today. This all involves the gunslinger following a man in black that the gunslinger plans on killing. He does not know why he is following the man in black and why he must kill him, but he continues to do what he was trained to do. He was the last of the gunslingers. This book is not like any other book I have read before. I enjoyed this book and would love to read the rest of the books in the Dark Tower series and I hope you would enjoy to read this book as well.

Pure Genius
This series is unlike anything else Stephen King has written It is by far the BEST series I have ever read and I read alot. I have read the series twice and have already started reading it again.I Love these books that much.I would recomend these books to anyone. If you are reading this Mr.King I would like you to know that all I ever think about is the next book.

This book is eerily awesome
I have read all four of the dark tower books and I must say it is the best series I have ever read and I have read a lot of books. Just one question though, when are the other, books in the series going to come out, like you said Mr. King. Please hurry, I cant hardly wait for the rest.

Powerful Prayers (G K Hall Large Print Inspirational Series)
Published in Hardcover by G K Hall & Co (June, 1999)
Authors: Larry King and Irwin Katsof
Average review score:

Powerful Prayer a Must Read
Powerful Prayers is a Must Read Reading Powerful Prayers provides you amazingly simple examples of commuincating with God through personal everyday prayer. It opens the door to an otherwise complex arena of thought. The discussion between Larry King and Rabbi Katsof is sensitive and thought provoking. The interviews add incredible depth to the discussion. They also legitimize informal prayer, and the many different ways people have found to communicate with their respective spiritual beings. I recommend this book to everyone who is open to exlporing their individual communication with God. It is a must read. It has changed my entire understanding or paradigm in regards to my relationship with God outside of a house of worship.

Simply Powerful
Mr. King delved into the foundation of Spirituality and Religion and made simple an otherwise complex and controversial issue. The book focuses on the individual and his or her communication with God, while setting aside religious beliefs. I would like to recommend to friends who are too formal about prayers and to those who maybe agnostic such as Larry King in his book.

A must-read for inspiration
Unlike most "religious" category books, this book lacks the preachy quality that causes most readers to not absorb the text. This book insightfully breaks down barriers between different religious beliefs and simply brings forth the universal belief in a higher power. The people that Larry King and Rabbi Katsof chose to interview are made more personable and are made more tangible through their everyday prayers, which are similar to ours, and their quest to be closer to God. This book would make a fabulous holiday gift that is sure to please a recipient of any religious background.

Unicorns of Balinor #3: Valley of Fear

EXCELLENT BOOK!
Valley of Fear was a great book! Dang!Mary Stanton can sure bring to life her characters. Unicorns of Balinor is my favorite book no doubt! This book brings to life a vivid image in your head! Hint to all readers-MUST READ ALL BOOKS IN THIS SERIES IN ORDER! I love this book!

A great book!
Sunchaser the unicorn , Lori , Ari and a unicorn toby are trying to find the Royal scepter and they ask the old mare of the mountain , who tells them they will find in the valley of fear were the black unicorns are. Ari needs it to be the princess of balinor , she just wants to be the ordinary girl she is but she must for Sunchaser the great unicorn and she must for Balinor. So Sunchaser and Toby the unicorns with Lori Sunchasers master and Ari the maid to her go to the valley of fear dressed as soldiers and Ari finds the Royal Secpter but both girls Lori and Ari with Sunchaser fall into the pit and are back at Glacier River Farm.

Valley of Fear
The Unicorns of Balinor is a very good example of protagonist/antagonist books. Foreshadowing is also displayed very well. I remember when I read it for the first time two years ago, I was kept on the edge of my seat because the story line is very addicting and suspenseful. It's hard not to imagine your self in a woodland watching the old mare of the mountian appear or carefully making your way across the fiery feild (in order to recliam the royal septer from the evil shifter).

True, the book ends very abruptly, but that is why it is in a series. This is not; however, a series you can read out of order. Trust me, I have tried to do that. It doesn't work.
